Colonels Split Twin Bill With Colby-Sawyer Chargers

DAVENPORT, Fla. - The Curry College Baseball team split the second double-header of their spring training in Florida against non-conference opponent Colby-Sawyer Wednesday afternoon at the Northeast Regional Park. 

With the split, Curry continues their season at 3-3. With today's results, Colby-Sawyer continues at 2-6 overall. 

 

Game 1 - Curry 5, Colby-Sawyer 4

The Chargers tallied runs on the board first, marking 3 in the first inning. 

Junior outfielder Conor Hanlon (Beverly, Mass.) opened the scoring for the Colonels with an RBI single through the right side, batting in Brett Heggs (Taunton, Mass.). Curry tallied another two runs to their total in the bottom of the first with a two-run homer from senior first baseman Jason Leonard (Dedham, Mass.). 

Colby-Sawyer marked another run in the top of the second on a wild pitch from Bobby Marshall (Hanson, Mass.), granting a score by Ian Turpel. 

In the bottom of the fourth, the Colonels decided the contest. An RBI double from Curry's Brett Heggs tied the game at 4 apiece, Andres Ramos (Sonora, Mexico) with the scoring run. Curry took the lead on the next at-bat, Brandon Polanco (Brooklyn, N.Y.) batting in Brett Heggs on a sacrifice fly to right field. 

Curry's Cameron Herndon (Floresville, Texas) held off the Chargers for the remaining three innings and was credited with the save in the morning matchup. 

Colonels starting pitcher Bobby Marshall pitched four innings, facing 20 batters while allowing just five hits. 

 

Game 2 - Curry 7, Colby-Sawyer 8

 

The Colonels put two runs on the board quickly in the first inning. Jason Leonard batted in Brett Heggs on a sacrifice fly to center field as Andres Ramos tallied another to the Colonels' score, sending a shot up the left-field line, sending Conor Hanlon into home. 

Colby-Sawyer marked five runs through the bottom of the first and second innings.

The Colonels added one more in the top of the third, Conor Hanlon batting in Polanco. The Colonels would trail by three headed into the fourth inning. Brett Heggs and Conor Hanlon both tallying another RBI in the fourth to bring Curry within one run of the Chargers. 

Curry took the lead in the sixth, Brett Heggs scoring on a wild pitch from Josh Finkle. 

Colby-Sawyer answered the Colonel lead, Turpel and Holmes tallying two more runs to the Charger's score.

Colby-Sawyer would take the afternoon matchup by a final score of 8-7.
