Baseball Falls to St. Norbert

WINTER HAVEN, Fla. - The Curry College baseball team suffered a 4-1 defeat to St. Norbert College Tuesday afternoon in game four of its Florida Spring Break trip at the Chain o' Lakes Baseball Complex.

With the defeat, Curry moves to 2-2 overall on the season.

Curry opened the scoring in the top of the fifth inning when freshman David DiCicco (Winthrop, Mass.) recorded his third run batted in of the trip on a groundout to first base. Senior Julian Jaume (Staten Island, N.Y.), who doubled two batters earlier, scampered home from third on the play to score the game's first run.

St. Norbert saved all of its offense for the bottom of the eighth inning, but got all four of their runs on one swing. With two outs in the inning and the bases loaded, Grady Brick hit a no-doubt grand slam on a 2-1 pitch to put the Green Knights ahead for good at 4-1.

The Colonels went down 1-2-3 in the top of the ninth as St. Norbert sealed the victory.

Freshman hurler Colman Dyer (Sterling, Mass.) dazzled in his first collegiate start, throwing seven shutout innings, allowing just five hits and one walk while striking out four. The rookie was strapped with a no-decision.

Curry will be back in action on Wednesday morning, continuing its Florida Spring Break trip with a doubleheader against Colby-Sawyer College starting at 10 a.m. in Davenport.
