SPRINGFIELD, Mass. – The Curry College baseball team fell to Western New England University in a pair of one-run games on Friday afternoon. The Golden Bears triumphed in game one 8-7 and took the nightcap in a 6-5 final.

Game One – Western New England 8, Curry 7

Trailing by five heading into the fifth inning, Curry scored two runs in the frame to trim the deficit to four, 8-4. Freshman Joan Peralta (Brooklyn, N.Y.) drew a bases-loaded walk, which brought home junior Jason Leonard (Dedham, Mass.). In the next at-bat, sophomore Peyton Sylvia (Brockton, Mass.) connected on a single to plate graduate student Jared Keller (Oxford, Conn.).

Keller continued the offense in the sixth on a RBI single to left field. The base knock scored junior Eric Sennott (Odessa, Fla.) to make the score 8-7.

Curry got the game-tying runner aboard in the seventh when senior Dylan Ketterer (Plymouth, Mass.) registered a base hit to right field. He stole second base and eventually crossed home on a single to left center from Sennott. The Colonels were unable to get the runner home and would fall in the one-run contest, 8-7.

Curry senior starter Garrett Fosher (Exeter, N.H.) lasted 3.2 innings and gave up eight runs (five earned) on six hits while striking out two and walking two.

Senior Clay Tucker (Chelmsford, Mass.) picked up the win on the hill for Western New England. He went 4.2 innings, surrendering five runs on nine hits to go along with four walks and two strikeouts. Junior Andrew Chiodi (Ridgefield, Conn.) converted the three-out save to preserve the victory for the Golden Bears.

Game Two – Western New England 6, Curry 5

The Golden Bears tallied back ten hits in the nightcap and held off a late rally by the Colonels. Curry trailed 6-1 heading into the final frame. Freshman Ryan Goonan (Raynham, Mass.) hit a sacrifice fly to left field to bring home Ketterer. After a single by Leonard, Keller had a single of his own to left to bring around junior Julian Jaume (Staten Island, N.Y.) and Fosher.

Freshman Liam Wallace (Madison, Mass.) entered with the winning runs on base and secured the final out.

Senior Kevin Hummer (Shrewsbury, Mass.) picked up the win and improved to 3-1 on the season. He struck out seven and walked one over 8.1 innings of work.

Curry junior starter Ryan Williams (Waltham, Mass.) suffered the loss, allowing three runs on five hits over 5.0 innings.
