Baseball Topped By Hawks

MILTON, Mass. – The Curry College baseball team lost to visiting Roger Williams University on Wednesday afternoon in a 5-1 final at the Jack Vallely Diamond. The win moves the Hawks to 12-4 while the loss drops the Colonels to 3-9 overall.

Roger Williams got on the board in the first inning with two runs. After a leadoff walk and a flyout to move the runner over, senior Brandon Jenkins (East Bridgewater, Mass.) launched a two-run home run to right field.

The Hawks tacked on another in the third when senior Tyler Cedeno (Maynard, Mass.) singled down the left field line, scoring classmate Eddy Jackson (Seekonk, Mass.) from third.

The Colonels plated their lone run in the fifth when senior Riley Cronin (East Providence, R.I.) singled to left field to bring around freshman Ryan Goonan (Raynham, Mass.) to make the score 3-1.

Roger Williams tallied one run each in the seventh and eighth innings to round out the scoring. Freshman Jack Morin (North Andover, Mass.) doubled to left center, which scored graduate student Joey Gulino (Meriden, Conn.) and junior Ben Bonavita (East Longmeadow, Mass.) homered to left center in the eighth for the 5-1 final.

Senior Garrett Fosher (Exeter, N.H.) led the way for Curry, going 2-for-3. Jackson finished the contest going 2-for-4 at the dish with one RBI for the Hawks.

Senior Chris Crawford (Putnam Valley, N.Y.) was credited with the win on the hill. He tossed four innings and registered three walks and two strikeouts. Freshman Zach McCarthy (Plympton, Mass.) was tagged with the loss. He went one inning, surrendering two runs on two hits.

Curry remains home to host Nichols College in a doubleheader on Friday, April 9 starting at 1:00 p.m. Roger Williams heads to Western New England University on Saturday, April 10 for a twinbill beginning at noon.
