MILTON, Mass. – The Curry College baseball team lost a 4-2 decision to Salve Regina University on Sunday morning. Game two was halted in the bottom of the fifth due to inclement weather. The contest will be concluded on Wednesday at Salve Regina.

Curry (2-3 overall, 0-3 CCC) got in front 2-0 in the first inning. Senior Garrett Fosher (Exeter, N.H.) drew a walk to start the frame. Junior Jason Leonard (Dedham, Mass.) also got aboard via a walk. After a single by senior Jared Keller (Oxford, Conn.) to move the runners over, freshman Joan Peralta (Brooklyn, N.Y.) delivered a two-out double to center, which plated Leonard and Fosher.

Salve Regina (3-0 overall, 3-0 CCC) pulled even in the third when sophomore Matt D'Amato (Midland Park, N.J.) scored on a passed ball and then freshman Michael Breen (Auburn, Mass.) contributed a sacrifice fly to left to help score sophomore Chris Veneruso (Westport, Conn.) from third.

The Seahawks added another in the fourth following a sacrifice fly from D'Amato. Junior Sean O'Malley (Darien, Conn.) crossed home to give the road squad a 3-2 advantage.

Breen got back in the action in the seventh when he grounded out to second base with two on. The play was deep enough to score Veneruso.

The Colonels had one final chance in the home half of the seventh. Peralta led off the frame with a walk. Junior Michael Mulrean (Easton, Mass.) came into the game to pinch run for Peralta. Following back-to-back strikeouts, freshman Ryan Goonan (Raynham, Mass.) came up to the plate and singled to short, advancing Mulrean into scoring position. The game would end after Mulrean was picked off at second.

Sophomore Joe Escandon (Allenhurst, N.J.) picked up the win on the hill for Salve Regina. He went six and two thirds while giving up two runs on four hits while striking out six and walking three. Junior Holden Ferrari (Dover, Mass.) was credited with the save.

Junior Jack Needham (Raynham, Mass.) went the distance on the mound in the loss. He surrendered four runs (three earned) on seven hits while fanning one to go along with one walk.

Game two was suspended in the bottom of the fifth inning due to inclement weather with Salve Regina ahead 6-2.

The second game will be concluded on Wednesday, March 31 at Salve Regina. Following completion, the two teams will also play a nine-inning contest beginning at 3:00 p.m.
