Baseball Selected Fifth in CCC Preseason Coaches' Poll

SPRINGFIELD, Mass. – The Curry baseball team was picked fifth out of 10 teams in the Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) Preseason Coaches' Poll, as announced by the conference on Tuesday afternoon.

The Curry baseball program will continue to focus on developing a strong and deep pitching staff this year. The 2016 staff featured two All-CCC performers, the 2016 CCC strikeout leader and First Team selection David Griffin (Hanover, Mass.) and Second Team honoree Matt Fogarty (Millis, Mass.). The Colonels will also return Second Team All-Conference Selection catcher Nick Crivello (Millville, Mass.). Curry has an infusion of young talent as the team added 12 newcomers to the program.

Salve Regina and Endicott were tied at the top spot in the poll, both receiving 74 points. Western New England is tabbed to finish third after the Golden Bears claimed 62 points, including two first place votes. Nichols and Curry round out the top five with 57 and 43 points, respectively.

Gordon (33), Wentworth (18), and Eastern Nazarene (10) close out the poll in that order.

The Colonels will look to improve on their 2016 record of 13-24 overall and 6-10 in the CCC where they advanced to the final four of the CCC Tournament.

Curry opens the 2017 campaign on Saturday, Feb. 18 when they travel to Atlanta, Ga. to face Oglethorpe University in a doubleheader at 1 and 4:15 p.m., respectively. They will close the series with the Stormy Pretels on Sunday, Feb. 19 with first pitch slated for noon.
