Baseball Goes 2-0 in Twinbill at Roger Williams
BRISTOL, R.I. - The Roger Williams University Baseball team dropped their doubleheader with Curry College.  The Hawks fall to 7-16 overall and 4-6 in the Commonwealth Coast Conference while Colonels improve to 11-5 overall and 4-1 in the CCC.
Curry 6 - RWU 2
Curry struck first in the second inning with one run. Phillip Perez (West Covina, Calif.) opened the inning with a walk. Matt Warren (Wilbraham, Mass.) hit a grounder to left field, putting runners on first and second. Nick Crivello (Millville, Mass.) punched a grounder to the pitcher, resulting in a double play that pushed Perez to third base. Derek Pizarro (Cambridge, Mass.) bunted, and reached first on an error that allowed Perez to score.
 
The Colonels kept the pressure on in the fourth inning. Crivello started off with a ground ball to short left field. William De La Cruz (Bronx, N.Y.) lined to center field to put runners on first and second. John Arens (Milton, Mass.) smashed an RBI double to deep left field, sending Crivello home, and putting De La Cruz in scoring position. Kyle Connors (Stoughton, Mass.) laid down a sacrifice bunt, bringing De La Cruz home to bring the game to 3-0.
 
The Hawks made a pitching change in the fifth inning, putting in Sam Bennett (Andover, Mass.) for Troy DeLeon (East Hampton, N.H.).
 
The Hawks scored their first run in the bottom of the fifth inning. Shane Nowak (Litchfield, Conn.) came out swinging with a triple to deep right center. Caun Rogers (Gloucester, Mass.) hit a RBI grounder to short shop for a base hit, bringing Nowak home, making the score 3-1.
 
The Colonels scored three runs in the sixth inning, further advancing their lead over the Hawks. Pizarro reached on a walk to start the top of the sixth. De La Cruz laid down a sacrifice bunt to advance Pizarro to second. Arens then hit a RBI double to deep right center, bringing home Pizarro. Kyle Connors grounded to second and reached first on an error, putting Arens in scoring position. Connors stole second with Alex McLean at bat. McLean hit a two RBI single to left field, then stole second and third but was left on base at the end of the inning. The score now 6-1 Colonels.
 
Kevin Baker (Wilbraham, Mass.) reached first on a walk to start the bottom of the sixth, then stole second on a wild pitch with Reid Nelson (Wallingford, Conn.) at the plate. Nelson shot a ball to left field for a base hit, putting Baker in scoring position. Shawn Carliglio (Milford, Conn.) hit a sacrifice fly to right center, allowing Baker to tag up and score. The Colonels up 6-2 at the end of the sixth.
 
The Hawks made another pitching change to start the seventh inning, putting in Stephen Bianco (Keene, N.H.) for Bennett.
 
 The seventh inning remained scoreless for both teams, ending the game at 6-2.
 
Curry Colonels pitcher Vincent LoPriore (Boston, Mass.) picked up the win, pitching all seven innings giving up just two runs. Stephen Bianco picked up the loss for the Hawks. 
Curry 9 - RWU 2
The Colonels came out strong in the first inning. Kyle Connors started out with a walk, then advanced to third on two groundballs. Tanner Givens hit a fly ball to short right field for a double, allowing Connors to score. Nick Crivello hit a line drive double to center field, sending Givens home to set the score at 2-0
 
In the second inning, the Colonels stayed on top. Derek Pizarro scored on a wild pitch and John Arens came home on a ground ball hit by Alex McLean. McLean scored the 5th run for the Colonels on a line drive by Evan Morris, giving the team a substantial lead.
 
Kyle Connors was put in on the mound for the Hawks to start the third inning but was later replaced by A.J. Bashaw.
 
In the fifth, the Colonels increased their lead with three more runs. Zach Bowden drove home Tanner Givens with a line drive to short center, Nick Crivello was able to score when Pizarro hit a grounder to left field, and Bowden came home as the Hawks tried to turn a double play that put the score at  8-0.
 
The Hawks got their first run of the game in the bottom of the fifth with a home run by Bryan Terzian.
 
In the sixth, the Hawks attempted a comeback. Sean Gaffney singled to left field, and stole second whileAdam Dellemonico was at the plate. Delmonico was thrown out a first and brought Gaffney to third. Kevin baker then hit a sacrifice fly to right field that brought Gaffney home, bringing the score to 8-2.
 
Tyler Winters, Ryan Corry, and Brandon Glover all got their chance at the mound for the Hawks in the seventh inning, only letting up one run.
 
The final score of the game was 9-2.
 
Brandon Glover picked up the pitching loss for the Hawks, while Brian Burke picked up the win for Curry.
 
The Hawks will face Umass-Boston in Bristol, R.I. on April 15. The Colonels will play again April 13 at home vs. Nichols College. (Recap courtesy of RWU Sports Information)
