Baseball Tripped Up 4-2 and 5-1 in a CCC Doubleheader vs. Roger Williams

MILTON, Mass. – Curry College dropped both games of a doubleheader against visiting Roger Williams University in Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) baseball action Saturday afternoon in Milton. The Colonels absorbed a 4-2 loss in the opener, and dropped the second game by a final of 5-1. The Hawks improved to 14-4 overall and 6-0 in CCC play while Curry is now 5-10 overall and 0-4 in conference action.

GAME ONE

Roger Williams opened the scoring in the top of the third inning when sophomore Caulin Rogers (Gloucester, Mass.) singled to right field scoring senior Trevor Larson (Northbridge, Mass.).

In the fifth inning, Roger Williams' senior Mike Pascarella (Milford, Conn.) singled through the left side driving in sophomore Kevin Baker (Wilbraham, Mass.) for the run. The Hawks then pulled off a double steal leading Pascarella to score their third run on an error by the catcher. Sophomore Jamie Timothy (Cohasset, Mass.) knocked in Rogers accounting Roger Williams' final run of the game.

The Colonels scored their first run in the same inning when sophomore Tim Lathrop (Colchester, Conn.) came home on a double play. Then Curry scored their final run, cutting the deficit in half (4-2), when freshman Tyler Armstrong (Gilbert, Ariz.) scored on a wild pitch.

Senior Sean Boyle (Arlingtion, Mass.) went six strong innings for the win improving to 4-0 on the season. Boyle surrendered nine hits and two earned runs while striking out three. Senior Tyler Pogmore (Lebanon, Conn.) recorded his sixth save on the season, pitching a scoreless seventh inning. Junior Thomas Fitzpatrick (South Boston, Mass.) absorbed the loss, falling to 1-3. Fitzpatrick allowed five hits and one earned run.

GAME TWO

In the second game, the Colonels scored their lone run early on in the bottom of the third when sophomore John Arens (Milton, Mass.) scored on a single up the middle by classmate Philip Perez (West Covina, Calif.).

Curry maintained their one run lead throughout the game until the top of the seventh inning when the Hawks mounted a five-run rally starting with pinch runners freshman Mike Barry (Medway, Mass.) and sophomore Adam Risman (Andover, Mass.) both scoring off of a single from Pascarella. Larson then scored on an error by the second baseman. Roger Williams' last two runs came from Timothy singling up the middle recording two RBI scoring both Rogers and Pascarella.

Sophomore George Lund (West Hartford, Conn.) picked up the win (4-0) allowing four hits and one earned run, while striking out 11. Sophomore Tyler Winters (Plainfield, Conn.) notched his second save allowing only two walks in the seventh inning. Freshman Ben Carrasco (San Francisco, Calif.) went the distance surrendering three hits, five runs (one earned), and striking out five.

The Colonels return to action next Friday, hosting CCC rival Gordon for a doubleheader beginning at 2:00 p.m., while the Hawks host Salem State on Tuesday in a non-conference game starting at 3:30 p.m.
