Top-Seeded Baseball Advances to ECAC Division III Championship Game After Defeating #5 Seed Framingham State 15-3 in Semi-Final Game

EASTON, Mass. – Senior Tim Sweeney (Walpole, MA) went 5-for-6 as he led the top-seed Colonels to a win over #5 Framingham State, 15-3, in an ECAC Division III New England Tournament semi-final game Saturday afternoon in Easton. Curry (29-13) advances to the finals on Sunday and will host #3 Wentworth.  The game will be played at Bentley University at 3:00 p.m.

The Colonels began the game with great pitching and great fielding as they held the Rams scoreless until the fourth inning when junior Corey Ketterer (Plymouth, MA) crossed the plate for an unearned run.

In those four innings of play, the Colonels managed to plate 13 runs which was highlighted by a two RBI double to center by Senior Jesse Bruinsma (Lynnfield, MA) in the second inning that brought home both junior Carlos Cornejo (Lake Forest, CA) and sophomore Brian Morante (Westwood, MA). Curry added one more run in the fifth, seventh and eighth.

Framingham State generated some offense in the bottom of the ninth as they drove in two runs. The first came off of a double to center field by sophomore Chris Cole (Lynn, MA). The second run scored after sophomore Chris Brassard (Fitchburg, MA) hit a single to right.

Sweeney led the Colonels as he went 5-for-6 with one RBI and four runs. Bruinsma added three RBI while junior Ben Blaisdell (Mansfield, MA), Morante and Cornejo each contributed with two RBI.

Senior Cory Moore (Lynn, MA) pitched an excellent game for the Colonels with only one hit, one walk, six strikeouts and no earned runs allowed in five innings of work. The Rams starter was freshman Joe Quinn (Assonet, MA) gave up six hits, three bases on balls and allowed five earned runs.
