Baseball Earns a Pair of Wins Over TCCC Rival Endicott
BRAINTREE, Mass. – In a battle of top teams in The Commonwealth Coast Conference (TCCC), Curry College swept visiting Endicott, 1-0 and 3-2, in baseball action Tuesday afternoon in Braintree. Curry improved to 21-10 overall and 14-4 in TCCC play. Endicott fell to 21-12 overall and 14-4 in league play.

Game 1 was a classic pitcher’s duel between Curry senior Cory Moore (Lynn, MA) and Endicott freshman Brendan Pittsley (Plympton, MA). The only run of the contest came in the bottom of the sixth inning, when Colonels’ senior Tony Luciani (Weymouth, MA) launched a solo home run to centerfield.

Moore (5-0) picked up the complete-game win, scattering five hits while walking three and striking out two. He also earned his 16th career win, establishing a school record. Pittsley (1-1) was the tough-luck loser, allowing just six hits and three walks in his six innings of work.

In the nightcap, senior Jesse Bruinsma (Lynnfield, MA) started off the bottom of the first with a single to center then stole both second and third. An infield hit by junior Brad Hawn (Chino Hills, CA) scored Bruinsma with the first run of the game.

The Gulls knotted the score at 1-1 in the top of the second. The inning began with back-to-back singles by senior Aaron Santos (Cambridge, MA) and sophomore Colin Sitarz (West Hartford, CT). Santos would move to third on a wild pitch, and later score on an RBI fielder’s choice by senior Joe Klein (Monroe, CT).

Curry plated single runs in the third and fourth innings to build a 3-1 lead. The first came on an RBI single by Luciani, followed an inning later by an RBI fielder’s choice off the bat of junior Carlos Cornejo (Lake Forest, CA).

The visitors pulled to within one in the top of the seventh when Klein brought home Santos with an infield single, but Klein was later erased on a fielder’s choice to end the game.

Senior Cory Collins (Whitman, MA) improved to 4-1 on the season, tossing a complete-game six-hitter. He issued no walks while striking out three. Freshman Tyler Hitchcock (Abington, MA) fell to 1-1 on the year, surrendering 10 hits and striking out four without issuing a base on balls.

Curry resumes play with a home doubleheader against Roger Williams on April 22 at 2:00 p.m. Endicott hosts Brandeis in a non-conference contest on April 21 at 4:00 p.m.
