Three Soccer Student-Athletes Earn CCC Weekly Recognition

BIDDEFORD, Maine - Three Curry College soccer student-athletes received weekly awards from the Commonwealth Coast Conference on Monday afternoon.

Junior Lucas Drons (Bellingham, Mass.) was named the CCC Men's Soccer Offensive Player of the Week, while freshman Abby Corcoran (Newington, Conn.) and sophomore Lexi Smardon (Scotland, Conn.) were named the CCC Women's Soccer Rookie and Defensive Player of the Week respectively.

Drons scored at least one goal in each of Curry's three wins last week, including two in a CCC win over Nichols on Friday. In total, Drons found the back of the net four times on the week, with game-winning goals against Lesley on Monday and Worcester State on Wednesday.

Corcoran scored her first collegiate goal just under two minutes into Curry's 4-0 win over Nichols on Saturday. The marker held up as the game-winner for the Colonels.

Smardon kept a clean sheet for all 135 minutes she played last week, and earned her first collegiate shutout on Saturday with three saves in the victory over Nichols. Smardon now has a 0.67 goals against average on the season and a save percentage of .833.

It was the first CCC weekly award of the season for each of the three Colonels.
