Four Colonels Receive Weekly Honors from CCC

BIDDEFORD, Maine - Four Curry College student-athletes received Commonwealth Coast Conference Weekly Awards on Monday afternoon.

Curry swept the CCC men's soccer awards, as sophomore Giovanni Martins (Brockton, Mass.) was named Player of the Week and Rookie of the Week, and junior goalkeeper Kyle Tremblay (Methuen, Mass.) was named Defensive Player of the Week.

Sophomore Alexandra Borkov (Newton, Mass.) repeated as the CCC Women's Tennis Player of the Week, while sophomore Michael Sims (Baltic, Conn.) earned his first CCC Football Defensive Player of the Week honor.

Martins scored three of Curry's four goals last week as the Colonels earned a pair of CCC victories. Martins scored both goals in Curry's 2-1 win over Wentworth on Tuesday, before tallying the game-winning goal in his team's 2-0 shutout of the University of New England on Friday.

Tremblay was the backbone of the Colonel defense this week that jumped up the league standings with a pair of CCC victories. Tremblay made four saves on the week and allowed just one goal in two games to finish the week with an .800 save percentage and 0.50 goals against average.

Borkov closed out her dominant fall season with her 11th and 12th singles wins of the season. Borkov outscored her opponents 24-6 in her two wins at first singles.

Sims tied for second on the Colonels defense with seven tackles in Curry's 23-10 loss to Western New England on Saturday. Sims also recorded a key fumble recovery, the first of his collegiate career, in the defeat.
