Athletic Department Hosts Guest Speaker Aaron Cooksey, Founder of Drop Your Pride Program

MILTON, Mass. – On Monday, October 2 at 7:00 p.m., the Curry College Athletic Department hosted guest speaker Aaron Cooksey, the founder of the Drop Your Pride progam. Student-Athlete Advisory Committee member and Softball Captain Jess Saluti introduced Mr. Cooksey to a large crowd of student-athletes and members of the Curry Community.

Cooksey had Katz Gymnasium hanging on his every word. Cooksey described in detail the day and events that caused an accident that resulted in the death of his best friend. After serving four years in prison and having his driver's license taken away for life, Cooksey explained this nightmare he had created and how it had affected hundreds of people.

Cooksey shared photos of his daughter and explained how he fears the day he has to tell her what he had done.  He went on to provide simple yet helpful advice on how to appreciate people and make thoughtful and educational decisions. "His story is pretty amazing, he was very open and honest," Davante Thomas of the Curry football team.  "What happened to Aaron was something that could happen to anyone and his message to our student-athletes and staff was a powerful reminder about making good decisions in life," said Athletic Director Vinnie Eruzione.
