Women's Tennis Drops Season Opener to Johnson & Wales, 9-0

MILTON, Mass. – The Curry College women's tennis team dropped its season-opening match to visiting Johnson & Wales University by a 9-0 final on Saturday afternoon at the Big Nine Tennis Courts. The Wildcats move to 1-0 on the season while the Colonels slip to 0-1.

Johnson & Wales started the contest with a clean sweep of doubles play, not dropping a single game. Delaney Macchirole (Greenport, N.Y.) and Kourtney Moore (Roswell, Ga.) defeated Hannah Faghan (Whitman, Mass.) and Alison Daigle (Edgartown, Mass.) at first doubles, 8-0. Claire Parry (Westport, Conn.) and Drew Bobey (Charleston S.C.) took down Rosario Robidoux (Agawam, Mass.) and Sidara Cash-Sortwell (South Portland, Maine) 8-0 at second doubles. Victoria Pizzulo (Lafayette, N.J.) and Lilly Votta (Scituate, R.I.) captured the point at third doubles by an 8-0 score over Kelsie Merrill (Hope, Maine) and Samantha Gilbert (Bedford, Mass.).

The Wildcats continued their strong play into the singles portion of the competition, only surrendering seven total games across the six matches. Parry blanked Faghan at the top spot 6-0, 6-0. Macchirole defeated Daigle at number two 6-0, 6-1. Moore took down Cash-Sortwell 6-2, 6-0. Bobey and Gabriela Velazquez (La Romana, D.R.) each earned straight set victories, 6-0, 6-0 at number five and six, respectively. The most competitive singles match of the day came at number three as Torre topped Robidoux 6-3, 6-1.
