Two Second Half Tallies Propel Roger Williams Past Women's Soccer, 3-1

MILTON, Mass. – Roger Williams University women's soccer came through with two second-half scores to lift them past Curry College, 3-1, on Wednesday night in Commonwealth Coast Conference action at Walter M. Katz Field.

With the win, the Hawks improved to 7-9-0 overall and 4-2-0 in the CCC, while the loss dropped the Colonels to 8-8-1 overall and 1-4-1 in conference play.

Curry got on the board just 4:07 into the contest as the Colonels were awarded a free kick after a foul and Isabella Shields (Lakeville, Mass.) buried the shot and put it past Roger Williams' netminder Morgan Strassburg (Longmeadow, Mass.) to give the home squad the early 1-0 advantage.

The Hawks netted the equalizer in the 11th minute as Gabbi Rozumek (Woodstock, Vt.) scored her third goal of the season, burying a shot off an assist by Sarina Olson (Bristol, R.I.).  

Roger Williams went up 2-1 in the 46th minute when Morgan Snow (Rowley, Mass.) recorded her fifth goal of the season, firing a shot from 20 yards out and past Maggie Chamberlain (Taunton, Mass.). The Hawks tacked on an additional score in the 76th minute as Maggie Hickey drilled a shot past the Curry goalie for her third tally of the season.

The teams were even in shots (8-8) while Roger Williams held a 14-1 advantage in corner kicks.

Picking up the win in net for the Hawks was Strassburg, who finished with four saves. Chamberlain stopped three shots in the loss.

The Colonels will hit the field again on Saturday, October 20 when they travel to Endicott. Kickoff is slated for 2:30 p.m. Roger Williams returns home to face Wentworth on Saturday at noon.
