Women's Soccer Drops CCC Opener At Salve Regina

NEWPORT, R.I. – The Curry College women's soccer team dropped its Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) opener to Salve Regina University by a 2-1 final at Reynolds Field on Saturday afternoon. The win pushes the Seahawks to 3-1-0 overall and 1-0-0 in the CCC while the Colonels dip to 5-2-0 and 0-1-0 in league play.

Salve Regina's Abby McMackin (Walpole, Mass.) scored both goals to help her team earn a third CCC victory.

In the eight minute, McMackin gave the home team the early advantage when she recorded her first goal on the afternoon when she received a pass from Emily Szemreylo (Marlborough, Conn.) and deposited the shot in the back of the net.

The Seahawks added to their lead in the 26th minute as McMackin found herself back in the action with another goal, this time the assist going to Jamie Robert (Holyoke, Mass.) to give Salve Regina the 2-0 lead. The contest would remain 2-0 for the remainder of the first half and into the intermission.

Curry got on the board in the 50th minute as Maddie Wilson (Millbury, Mass.) put a shot past Salve keeper Carly Pala () to cut the deficit to one. The Colonels were unable to score the equalizer as they fell by a one-goal margin.

The Seahawks registered 13 total shots in the contest, led by seven from McMackin. Curry tallied 20 shots in the contest, paced by Samantha Borges (Somerset, Mass.) who registered seven.

Curry held the edge in corners (7-3) while the goalkeeper Katelyn DeMaio (North Andover, Mass.) made three saves on five shots. Maggie Chamberlain (Taunton, Mass.) played the final 39:31 of regulation, converting one save.

The Colonels will next travel to Plymouth State on Tuesday, September 18 for a non-league contest starting at 4:00 p.m.
