Women's Soccer Holds Off Clark, 1-0

MILTON, Mass. – The Curry College women's soccer team notched its third straight victory, edging visiting Clark University by a 1-0 final on Tuesday night at Walter M. Katz Field. With the win, the Colonels improve to 4-1 on the season while the Cougars slip to 3-1-1.

The first half of play was fairly even between the teams as Curry had a slight edge in shots, 6-4. One of those six found the back of the net when sophomore Isabella Shields fired a shot past Clark keeper Alison Carroll (Douglas, Mass.) to give the Colonels the 1-0 lead. The tally remained the only scoring for the rest of the half.

The squads were equal in corners (3-3) after 45 minutes of play.

Following the intermission, the Cougars would come out on the attack. Clark outshot Curry 17-3 in the stanza, forcing the Colonels goalkeeper Katelyn DeMaio (North Andover, Mass.) to come up with 10 clutch saves in the period.

Even with the Cougars pressuring to score and having a 7-0 advantage in corners, they were unable to score the equalizer, which preserved the one-goal victory for Curry.

DeMaio moves to 4-1 on the season, converting 12 saves to complete her fourth shutout. Carroll finished with six saves in the loss for Clark.

The Colonels return to the pitch on Thursday, September 13 at home against Eastern Nazarene College at 6:30 p.m. Clark opens conference play on Saturday when they welcome in WPI for 1:30 start.
