Women's Basketball Powers Past Pine Manor For First Win of Season, 77-53

MILTON, Mass. – Curry College powered to a 77-53 victory over Pine Manor College on Thursday night in non-conference women's basketball action at the Katz Gymnasium.

Nine Colonels got in the scoring column, led by 20 points from Peyton Perine (Fairfax, Va.). The freshman center also added four rebounds and four steals. Senior captain Emily Irwin (Billerica, Mass.) followed with an all-around game of 19 points, five rebounds, six assists, and eight steals. Reigning CCC Rookie of the Week freshman Amanda Leal (Tyngsboro, Mass.) was the final Curry player in double figures with 13. Junior Alexa Galluci (North Stonington, Conn.) led the reserves with eight points off the bench.

Curry held Pine Manor to just 33-percent shooting in the first half to take command. Irwin and Perine combined for 23 first-half points as the Colonels led 43-17 at the break.

Curry had another strong quarter coming out of halftime. The Colonels outscored the Gators 21-14 in the stanza to build a 64-31 lead after three quarters. The Gators narrowed the margin in the fourth quarter, outscoring Curry 22-13 to make it a 77-53 final.  

Pine Manor shot 37 percent for the game and turned the ball over 33 times. Kristen Harris (Boston, Mass.) finished with a double-double of 12 points and 12 rebounds while Oceane Tabbak (Norwood, Mass.) contributed 11 points, three rebounds, one assist, and one steal. Curry shot 41.9 percent from the floor in the contest.

Curry (1-2 overall) embarks on a season-long four game road trip starting on Tuesday, November 20 at Fitchburg State at 6:00 p.m. Pine Manor (0-2) will next play Westfield State on Saturday, November 17 for a matchup in the Emmanuel College Tip-Off Tournament at 1:00 p.m.
