Men's Soccer Clips Becker, 2-1

LEICESTER, Mass. – The Curry College men's soccer team battled to a 2-1 victory over Becker College on Wednesday afternoon at Alumni Field in non-conference play.

Junior midfielder Claudio Orsini (Watertown, Mass.) tallied both goals for the Colonels (5-1-1 overall) while junior goalkeeper Paul DeMaio (North Andover, Mass.) made three saves. Isaiah McCaskill (Springfield, Mass.) scored for the Hawks, which dropped to 0-5-0 overall.  

Curry jumped out to a 1-0 lead in the 42nd minute when Orsini received a cross from Will Longo (Ellington, Conn.) from the deep right corner. Orsini settled the ball and pushed it past Marco De Lauri (Edgware, U.K.) for his first goal of the match.

Becker evened the game at 1-1 in the 53rd minute as McCaskill buried a shot off a cross from left side that was headed past DeMaio, with the assist going to Juma Kombe (Leominster, Mass.).

Orsini lifted the Colonels back into the lead in the 55th minute off a free kick and put the shot past De Lauri. The goal was his team-leading third of the season.

Curry held a slight edge in second half shots, 8-7 and finished the contest with a 23-15 advantage. The Colonels also had a large lead in corners, 8-1.

Curry opens Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) play on Saturday, September 15 at noon at Salve Regina for their next contest. Becker will next host Lesley on Sunday, September 16 at 2:00 p.m.
