Orsini's Late Goal Sends Men's Soccer Past NVU-Johnson, 2-1

Manchester, Vt. – The Curry College men's soccer team edged Northern Vermont University-Johnson by a 2-1 final on Saturday afternoon at the LINAO Mountaineer Invitational. With the victory, the Colonels move to 3-1-1 while the Badgers fall to 2-1.

Curry grabbed the early advantage when Brandon Dickens (East Hartford, Conn.) scored an unassisted tally in the seventh minute when he brought it in from the left and ripped the shot past NVU-Johnson goalkeeper Gerrit Lane (Moretown, Vt.) to put the Colonels up 1-0. That goal would remain as the lone score for either squad in the first half.

Curry outshot NVU-Johnson 8-3 in the opening stanza and held a 6-1 advantage in corners.

The next scoring opportunity would come in the 76th minute when Colin Campbell (Killington, Vt.) ripped a shot from the right side, which found its way past Paul DeMaio (North Andover, Mass.) to knot the game at one. The game would only remained tied for just 29 more seconds as Claudio Orsini (Watertown, Conn.) blasted a shot from the left side which went off the right post and got past Lane to give the Colonels the lead as the goal proved to be the game-winner.

The Badgers held the advantage in shots 12-11 while Curry had a 10-3 edge in corner kicks.

DeMaio was credited with the victory, making three saves in 90 minutes. Lane converted one save in the loss.

The Colonels will return to the field on Sunday, September 9 at Southern Vermont at 2:30 p.m.
