Men's Soccer Battles Lesley to Double Overtime Tie, 1-1

CAMBRIDGE, Mass. – The Curry College men's soccer team battled Lesley University to a 1-1 double overtime tie on Wednesday night in non-league action. With the draw, the Colonels record goes to 2-1-1 while the Lynx move to 0-1-1.

Curry was on the attack for most of the first half, outshooting the Lesley 9-3. Despite the lead in shots, the Colonels were unable to find the back of the net, along with the Lesley to head into the half scoreless.

The squads traded goals in the second half. Nico Sabbatini (Cape Elizabeth, Maine) put Curry in front in the 50th minute off an assist from Jonathan Sarkis (Walpole, Mass.). Five minutes later, at the 55:20 mark, Liam Perrine (Pleasantville, N.Y.) scored the equalizer to knot the game at one. Lesley outshot the Colonels 11-8 in the second half, but were unable to score the go-ahead marker.

In both periods of overtime, the teams would combine for three shots, none of which found the back of the net. Both goalkeepers stayed solid between the pipes and kept the contest deadlocked at one.

Paul DeMaio (North Andover, Mass.) faced six shots on net, stopping five. Patrick Corcoran (West Hartford, Conn.) faced 10 shots on net, making nine saves.

Curry will next play on Saturday, September 8 against Northern Vermont-Johnson at the LINAO Mountaineer Invitational hosted by Southern Vermont College. Lesley returns to action Saturday afternoon when they host Wentworth at noon.
