Men's Soccer Opens Home Slate With Victory Over Lasell, 1-0

MILTON, Mass. – The Curry College men's soccer team captured its home opening match by a 1-0 final over visiting Lasell College on Monday afternoon at Walter M. Katz Field. The win pushes the Colonels to 2-1 while the Lasers fall to 0-1-1.

Curry controlled the majority of the first half, holding a slight advantage in shots at 10-3.  The Colonels landed four of their 10 shots on net with Lasell's junior keeper Jackson Burhans (Berlin, N.Y.) making the stops.  For the Lasers, they placed two of their three strikes on goal with the Colonels junior keeper Paul DeMaio (North Andover, Mass.) making the saves. Curry had five corner kick opportunities to Lasell's two and would capitalize when Nico Sabbatini (Cape Elizabeth, Maine) took advantage of a misplay by the defense off a pass from Nick Vreeland (Kensington, Conn.) and fired it past Burhans to give the Colonels a 1-0 lead heading into the break.

The teams combined to take seven total shots in the second frame as Curry outshot the Lasers, 4-3. Both keepers were solid between the posts coming up with clutch saves. Lasell had a few good chances but were unable to put one past DeMaio for his second shutout of the season.

The Colonels outshot the Lasers 14-6 and had seven corners while Lasell had three.

DeMaio earned the win in net for Curry making three saves. Burhans made an impressive five stops in net while Teo Cugno (Medford, Mass.) played the final 29:50 and converted one save.

Curry returns to action on Wednesday, September 5 when they travel to Lesley University for an 8:00 p.m. start. Lasell heads to Old Westbury on Thursday, September 6 at 4:00 p.m.
