Hockey Defeats Becker, 7-2, in Colonels Home Opener

MILTON, Mass. – The Curry College men's ice hockey team opened its 2018-19 home schedule with a bang as seven different Colonels scored in a 7-2 victory over Becker College Saturday night at Max Ulin Rink.

Behind Mic Curran's (Arlington, Mass.) three-point game, the Colonels improved to 3-0-1 overall and remain undefeated (2-0) in Commonwealth Coast Conference action while the Hawks fell to 0-4-0 and 0-2 in league play.

Curry took an early 1-0 lead as Kasper Kjellkvist (Vaxjo, Sweden) scored in the first 1:08 of the game. Zach White (Milford, Conn.) recorded the period's second goal with assists by Michael Snow (Medford, Mass.) and Alexander Bouchard (Winnipeg, Manitoba) that extended the Colonels advantage to 2-0 through the first period.  

In the second period, Curry's offense went into overdrive, as the Colonels registered three goals in less than seven minutes. Led by Curran, who scored at the 6:11 mark of the frame. He was assisted by Viktor Jansson (Stockholm, Sweden) and Mack Heisinger (Winnipeg, Manitoba) on the play. Only a few minutes later, Alex Ochterbeck (Dallas, Tex.) scored his first collegiate goal that stretched the Colonels lead to 4-1. Lionel Mauron's (Lausanne, Switzerland) power-play goal at 13:22 capped Curry's scoring.

Behind the third-period goals scored by Snow and Matthew Henderson's (Scarborough, Maine) unassisted goal capped Curry's flourishing offensive night at seven goals.

Justin Ketola (Cloquet, Minn.) tallied his first win of the season and improved his record to 1-0-1 on the season. The junior goaltender stopped 16 of the 18 shots faced in the game.

Charles Costello (Philadelphia, Pa.) and Zachary Bettmeng (Sioux Falls, S.D.) tallied Becker's only goals of the night in the first and third periods.

Becker's Ryan Clifford (Coventry, R.I.) received the loss for the Hawks, despite making 49 saves. 

The Colonels will continue their CCC schedule at Salve Regina University at 7:05 p.m., on Friday, November 9, at Portsmouth Abbey Ice Rink in Newport, R.I.
