Emerson Pulls Away From Men's Basketball in Second Half, 101-70

BOSTON, Mass. – The Curry College men's basketball team lost a 101-70 decision at Emerson College in non-conference action at Brown & Plofker Gym on Saturday afternoon.

The Lions had four players score in double figures led by senior Geoffrey Gray (Newton, Mass.), who netted 24 points to go along with 13 rebounds and seven assists. Freshman Zach Waterhouse (Hampton, N.H.) provided a spark off the bench with 22 points on 8-for-13 shooting in 20 minutes. Junior Jack O'Connor (Newport, R.I.) (13) and freshman Jarred Houston (Norwood, Mass.) (10) also scored in double figures for Emerson, who improved to 5-5 overall.

Leading Curry (0-10 overall) was junior Jared Thorpe-Johnson with a game-high 26 points and 12 rebounds. Junior Spencer Feng (Keene, N.H.) was 2-for-4 from three-point land and finished with 10 points. Sophomore RJ Hadfield (Warwick, R.I.) added nine points while Justin Kelley (Medford, Mass.) pitched in a team-high five points off the bench.

The Colonels jumped out to an early five-point lead as junior forward Kieran Carroll (Greenwich, Conn.) knocked down a jumper off a pass from Feng to make the score 7-2 with 17:25 left in the first.

With 4:49 left to play in the opening period, Emerson stretched its lead to 11 points with a 10-2 run. Houston capped the spurt with a layup to go up 37-26. The Lions ended the first half with a 16-point lead and kept the margin at double digits for the rest of the game.

It was a hot-shooting night for Emerson as they were 54 percent (40-for-74) from the floor and went 11-for-26 from beyond the arc. Curry shot 26-for-75 (34 percent) from the field and 37 percent (12-for-32) from three.

Curry will next play on Saturday, December 29 as they head to the Clark University Basketball Holiday Classic to square off against the host Cougars at   11:00 a.m. Emerson returns to action on Tuesday as they host Brandeis at 6:30 p.m.
