Men's Basketball Comes Up Short Against Fisher, 76-67

BOSTON, Mass. – The Curry College men's basketball team suffered a 76-67 setback to Fisher College on Saturday afternoon in the consolation game of the Paula Titus Memorial Tournament.

The Falcons shot 46 percent as a team and had four players score in double figures. Brandon Rembert (Camden, N.J.) posted team highs of 23 points and five steals to pace Fisher, which improved to 1-1 on the season. Kyle Snowden (Santa Cruz, Calif.) and Jahlen Lumpkins (Sacramento, Calif.) put up scoring efforts of 12 and 10 points, respectively. Giovanni Thompson (Kissimmee, Fla.) was the final starter in double figures with 10 points and added 10 rebounds for a double-double. Malik Tavares (Providence, R.I.) led the Fisher reserves with eight points off the bench.

Jared Thorpe-Johnson (Dorchester, Mass.) and Mackenzie Purry (Jackson, N.J.) paced the Colonels with 27 and 12 points, respectively. Thorpe-Johnson also pitched in 17 rebounds for a double-double. Alex Stein (Mount Olive, N.J.) led Curry reserves with five points.

Nearly halfway through the first half, two Thorpe-Johnson free throws made the score 15-15. The Falcons then closed the stanza on a 16-5 run to send Fisher into the locker room with a 31-21 lead at the half. Rembert netted nine points in the stanza while Thorpe-Johnson put up 10 points for the Colonels.

Thorpe-Johnson scored 17 points in the second half to lead Curry. The Colonels were able to trim the deficit to two in the frame but Fisher was able to stretch the lead to double digits. Thorpe-Johnson knocked down two free throws with five seconds remaining in regulation as the deficit was cut to under 10, 76-67, the eventual final. Curry finished with a 44-33 advantage on the glass and forced 18 turnovers.

Curry (0-4 overall) will next play at Emmanuel on Tuesday, November 20 at 5:00 p.m. Fisher (3-3 overall) hosts St. Joseph's (Vt.) on Wednesday, November 28 at 7:00 p.m.
