Women's Tennis Falls to CCC Foe Wentworth, 7-2

WESTON, Mass. – The Wentworth Institute of Technology women's tennis team snapped a four-match losing streak as the Leopards earned a 7-2 victory over Curry in a Commonwealth Coast Conference played at Regis College.

With the win the Leopards improve to 2-8 overall and 2-5 in league play while the Colonels fall to 1-9 (0-7).

The hosts swept the three doubles matches to take a 3-0 lead. At No. 3, sophomores Ellen Butts (Brookfield, mass.) and Veronica Monteiro (North Andover, Mass.) teamed up to take an 8-3 win over freshman Stephanie Leblanc (East Bridgewater, Mass.) and junior Jennifer Dube (Coventry, Conn.). Freshman Olivia DeLuca (Lowell, Mass.) and junior Emily Jodoin (Burrillville, R.I) won at No. 2 over sophomore Katelyn Harrington (Westport, Mass.) and junior Alexandra Moschetto (Hampton Falls, N.H.). At No. 1, the junior tandem of Caitlyn Briggs (Lee, Mass.) and Sam Webb (Duxbury, Mass.) defeated senior Kayla Prete (Orange, Conn.) and junior Laura Ferris (Shelton, Conn.), 8-6.

DeLuca gave the Leopards a 4-1 lead with a 6-3, 6-2 win at No. 2 singles over Ferris before Briggs clinched the match with a 6-1, 6-2 win over Prete. Webb extended the lead to 6-1 when she defeated Moschetto at No. 4, 6-4, 6-0, and Butts defeated Leblanc at No. 5, 6-1, 6-4. 

Curry got its only points of the match with wins at No. 3 and No. 6. At No. 3, Harrington defeated Jodoin, 3-6, 6-2, 20-5, and freshman Alexis Mclea-Perry (Plymouth, Mass.) bested sophomore Kelsey DeGouveia (New Bedford, Mass.), 7-6 (7-2), 6-3 at No. 6.
