MILTON, Mass. – The Curry College women's tennis team lost to Rhode Island College 8-1 this afternoon at the Big Nine Courts in Milton, Mass. The loss drops the Colonels to 1-7 overall. With the win, the Anchormen remain undefeated at 6-0 on the season.
The Anchormen swept the Colonels in all six single matches and took two doubles. The Colonels victory was earned when the No. 3 doubles partners Stephanie Leblanc (East Bridgewater, Mass.) and Jennifer Dube (Coventry, Conn.) outlasted Alejandra Alonzo (Pawtucket, R.I.) and Jenna St. Lawrence (Greenville, R.I.), 8-1.
RIC's No. 1 singles player, Dayna Reilly (Swansea, Mass.) won her match 6-0, 6-0 against Keeley Hardy (Charleston, S.C.). The Anchormen's No. 2 singles player Julie Reddy (Smithfield, R.I.) claimed her tilt verse Kayla Prete (Orange, Conn.), 6-1, 6-1. In No. 3 singles, the Colonels Laura Ferris (Shelton, Conn.) fell to Katherine Braganca (Pawtucket, R.I.), 6-0, 6-0. Curry's Katelyn Harrington (Westport, Mass.) fought a tough battle at the No.4 position but was eventually bested by Jorgie Martin (Greenville, N.J.), 7-5, 10-5. Isabella Romeo (Greenville, R.I.) earned the No. 5 singles win for RIC, 6-3, 6-2 by defeating Stephanie Leblanc (East Bridgewater, Mass.). And at the No. 6 position, Laura Cruso (Westerly, R.I.) knocked off Curry's Taylor Johnson (Abington, Mass.), 6-2, 6-1.
In doubles, the No.1 pair Reilly and Reddy earned an 8-1 victory over the Colonels Hardy and Prete. The No. 2 duo of Braganca and Romeo bested Curry's Harrington and Ferris, 8-2.
The Colonels return to action on Saturday, September 24 at 12:00 when they travel to Regis College to take on Wentworth in a Commonwealth Coast Conference match. The Anchormen return to action also on Saturday, September 24, when they host Western Connecticut in a Little East Conference match slated for 1:00 p.m.
