Women's Tennis Blanked 9-0 at UMass Boston

BOSTON, Mass. – On the final day of the 2015 regular season, women's tennis earned a hard fought 9-0 victory over Curry College to record the second most successful season in program history Friday afternoon at the Boston College High School Tennis Courts.

HOW IT HAPPENED

Looking to keep their recent momentum going, the Beacons also wanted to give their two senior members a victory in the final regular season match of their careers. 

In doubles play, UMass Boston quickly jumped out to a 3-0 lead, by taking a 8-5 win at first doubles, followed by an 8-4 win at second doubles, and a 8-2 win in third doubles.  Senior Nurcin Celebi (Istanbul, Turkey) and freshman Meghan Erickson (Hubbardston, Mass.) earned the decisive win at third doubles.

In singles play, Celebi picked-up a 7-6 (7-3), 6-2 win at third flight, while fellow senior Logan Smith earned a 6-2, 6-2 victory over Hannah Erickson.  At first singles Kristy Garcia (Miami, Fla.) closed out her 2015 regular season with a hard fought 5-7, 6-1, 10-8 victory over Kimberly Love.

Kelsey Shea (West Bridgewater, Mass.) ended the match with a pair of 6-0, 6-0 wins to give the Beacons a 9-0 victory.

BY THE NUMBERS

•         Garcia trailed in the super tiebreaker 3-8, before taking the 10-8 win

•         Friday's win marked the first win for the Beacons over the Colonels

•         All-time UMass Boston is now 1-4 against Curry College since their first meeting in 1995

WHO'S NEXT

The Beacons return to action on Tuesday when they play in the first round of the Little East Conference Tournament.  The Beacons will travel to UMass Dartmouth for the quarterfinal match, with a start time still to be determined.  The Colonels host Saint Joe's (Conn.) tomorrow for a 12:00 p.m. match start.  (Match recap Courtesy of UMass Boston Sports Information)
