MILTON, Mass. – The Curry College women's tennis team fell to visiting UMass Boston, 8-1, at the Big Nine Courts on Tuesday afternoon.  With the win the Beacons improve to 3-8 on the season, while the Colonels fall to 1-14 overall.

The Beacons swept all three double matches with the third win due to a Colonels forfeit.  They also were victorious in five of six singles matches.  The Colonels earned their only win at the #2 singles spot but had to forfeit at the #5 and #6 spots.

UMB's #1 singles player, freshman Kristy Garcia (Miami, Fla.) won her match 6-1, 6-1 against sophomore Kayla Prete (Orange, Conn.).  Curry's junior Hannah Erickson (Mount Desert, Maine) earned her teams only point on the day at the #2 slot when she claimed her tilt verse sophomore Kelsey Shea (West Bridgewater, Mass.), 6-4, 6-1. In # 3 singles, the Colonels freshman Laura Ferris (Shelton, Conn.) was bested by junior Nurcin Celebi (Istanbul, Turkey), 6-0, 6-0. The Beacons #4 singles player, sophomore Kathleen Conroy (Quincy, Mass.) upended freshman Alexandra Moschetto (Hampton Falls, N.H.), 6-2, 6-3. Curry was unable to compete at the #5 and #6 slots forcing them to give up the losses.

In doubles, the #1 duo of Garcia and freshman Martina Daelli (Florence, Italy) bested Erickson and Prete, 8-2.  At the #2 doubles slot, senior Stephanie McKenna (Amherst, N.H.) and sophomore Vicky Woytowicz (Springfield, Mass.) outlasted Ferris and freshman Jennifer Dube, 8-3.  In the final match on the day, the Lynx earned the point due again to a Colonels forfeit.
