Women's Tennis Earns First Victory of the Season, Defeating Mount Ida 7-2

MILTON, Mass. – The Curry College women's tennis team earned their first win of the season with a 7-2 win over Mt. Ida College at the Big Nine Courts on Friday afternoon.  With the win the Colonels move to 1-11 overall while the Mustangs fall to 0-6. 

Curry won two out of three double matches on the day.  Mt. Ida was victorious at the No.1 doubles slot but had to forfeit their No. 3 match.  The Colonels claimed the No.2 doubles slot. 

The Mustang's No. 1 singles player, freshman Rebecca Levy (Plymouth, Mass.) won her match 10-7 against junior Kimberly Love (Windsor Locks, Conn.).  Levy's victory was the only singles match Mt. Ida would earn as the Colonels would go on to win the next five.  At No. 2, sophomore Kayla Prete (Orange, Conn.) claimed her tilt verse freshman Olivia Budney (Webster, Mass.), 10-2.  In No. 3 singles, the Colonels junior Hannah Erickson (Mount Desert, Maine) bested sophomore Alicia Ritchie (Andover, Conn.), 10-1. Curry freshman Laura Ferris (Shelton, Conn.) earned her singles win at the No. 4 spot, 10-0, over Mt. Ida sophomore Danielle Barnabe (Warwick, R.I).  Freshman Alexandra Moschetto (Hampton Falls, N.H.) swept her match, 10-0, defeating freshman Yuliana Chairez (Waltham, Mass.), at the #5 slot.  Senior Alison Rhodes (Rye, N.H.) claimed the No.6 spot for the Colonels by forfeit over senior Patti-Ann Doucette (Lynn, Mass.).

In doubles, the No.1 duo of Levy and Budney bested Love and Prete, 8-4.  The No. 2 doubles partners, Ferris and Erickson outlasted Ritchie and Barnabe, 8-0.  In the final doubles match, Rhodes and Moschetto were victorious by forfeit over Chairez and Doucette.

The Colonels return to action on Saturday, October 4 at 12:00 when they host Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) opponent Endicott.  The Mustangs will return to action on Wednesday, October 8, when they host Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) opponent Suffolk for a 3:00 match.
