Women's Tennis Blanked, 9-0, by Gordon College

MILTON, Mass. – The Curry College women's tennis team fell to visiting Commonwealth Coast Conference opponent Gordon College, 9-0, at the Big Nine Courts on Monday afternoon.  With the win the Fighting Scots even their overall record to 5-5 and improve to 4-2 in the CCC.  The Colonels fell to 0-10 overall and 0-6 in the CCC.

The Scots swept all six singles matches and all three double matches.

Gordon No. 1 singles player, junior Tawnie Yeaw (Foothill Ranch, Calif.) won her match 6-2, 6-1 against sophomore Kayla Prete (Orange, Conn.).  Junior No. 2 singles player Lily Drescher (Reading, Mass.) claimed her tilt verse junior Hannah Erickson (Mount Desert, Maine), 6-3, 6-1. In No. 3 singles, the Colonels freshman Laura Ferris (Shelton, Conn.) was bested by freshman Nathalia Moran (Lake Villa, Ill.), 6-0, 6-1. Sophomore Liann Van Volkinburg (Chillicothe, Ohio) earned the No. 4 singles win for the Scots, 6-1, 6-4 by defeating freshman Alexandra Moschetto (Hampton Falls, N.H.). Gordon freshman Alexa Didomizio (Mawah, N.J.) earned 6-0, 6-3 wins over senior Alison Rhodes (Rye, N.H.) 6-2, 6-0 and at the No. 6 position freshman Anastasia Small (Byfield, Mass.) defeated freshman Jennifer Dube (Coventry, Conn.), 6-0, 6-0.

In doubles, the No. 1 duo of Yeaw and freshman Sophie Linnell (Richmond, Va.) bested Prete and Erickson, 8-4.  The No. 2 pair of sophomore Abby Caron (Bedford, N.H.) and freshman Madeline Berry (Paso Robles, Calif.) swept Ferris and Moschetto, 8-0.  In the final match on the day, No.3 doubles partners, sophomore Haley Bean (Trumbull, Conn.) and freshman Rebecca Kime (Harrisonburg, Va.) outlasted Dube and freshman Sanjay Toure (Brockton, Mass.), 8-0.

The Colonels return to action on Thursday, October 2 at 8:00 p.m. when they play conference opponent Nichols College at The Pomfret School.  The Fighting Scots return to action on Wednesday, October 1, when they travel to CCC opponent Western New England for a 3:30 match.
