Women's Tennis Picks Up 7-2 Road Win at Smith College

NORTHAMPTON, Mass.Megan Mulrooney (South Boston, Mass.) cruised to a pair of wins as Curry topped Smith, 7-2, on Saturday in a non-conference women's tennis match played at the Indoor Track and Tennis Facility.

Mulrooney teamed with Lauren Chuha (Reading, Mass.) at No. 1 singles to post an 8-3 win over Isabelle Eyeman (Franconia, N.H.) and Kelli Cheung (Plainfield, N.J.) and went on to defeat Cheung 6-1, 6-3 in singles action. Elizabeth Zarkades (Beverly, Mass.) and Devin Curley (Marshfield, Mass.) handed Hana Foe (Tempe, Ariz.) and Hannah Keys (Potomac, Md.) an 8-2 setback at No. 3. Smith's Ruth Yi (Federal Way, Wash.) and Melanie Sayarath (St. Johnsbury, Vt.) battled Kimberly Love (Windsor Locks, Conn.) and Kayla Prete (Orange, Conn.) at No. 2 doubles before the Colonels duo won the last two games for an 8-5 victory.

Chuha and Prete each were forced to win a tiebreak at No. 3 and No. 4. Chuhua dropped the first set, 6-3, to Yi before earning a 6-4 win in the second and eventually won 10-3. Prete took the first set 7-5 and Alexandra Steck (Loudonville, N.Y.) claimed the second 6-4 before falling 10-2. Zarkades posted identical 6-3, 6-3 sets to claim the fifth singles flight over Kathryn Dernbach (Naples, Fla.).

Smith picked up victories at No. 2 and No. 6 singles. Seema Samawi (Damascus, Syria) defeated Love 6-3, 6-4 as Jinan Martiuk (Sarasota, Fla.) cruised to a 6-0, 6-1 victory at the bottom of the lineup.
