Women's Soccer Falls to Conference Opponent Wentworth, 3-1

BOSTON, Mass. – A trio of Wentworth Institute of Technology women's soccer players located the back of the net as the Leopards defeated Curry College, 3-1, on Saturday afternoon in Commonwealth Coast Conference play at Sweeney Field.

Wentworth – winners of nine straight – improves to 14-2-1 overall and 7-1 in conference play, while Curry dips to 12-5-1 and 2-5-1. The nine straight victories matches the program's longest win streak, which was set during the 2005 campaign.

Junior Mary Annon (Concord, N.H.) provided the Leopards with an early advantage as she located the Colonels' net off a corner kick for her seven goal of the season. Annon fired a kick from the far flag that sailed through traffic before landing in the net at 17:23.

Nine minutes later, junior Mykaela Scarpace (Marlborough, Conn.) doubled Wentworth's advantage by firing in a rebound off a shot by classmate Rachel Perras (Portsmouth, R.I.) at 26:11. Perras set-up the goal by firing a shot two seconds ahead of the marker, which bounced off the fingertips of Curry junior Christina Chiofalo (Smithtown, N.Y.) in the box.

Curry would slice the deficit minutes later when senior Kelsey O'Brien (Danvers, Mass.) headed-in a corner kick by junior Kaitlyn Lima (New Bedford, Mass.) from the nearside flag at 29:23. The Colonels did not register a single shot over the final minutes of the frame as Wentworth held a 2-1 lead at the break.

Wentworth would secure the win late in the second session when freshman Madyson Reno (Simi Valley, Calif.) directed a feed from sophomore Emily Richard (Fremont, N.H.) on the far side of the box at 75:49. Both teams would register one shot over the final minutes, but neither attempt resulted in a goal.

The Leopards concluded the match outshooting Curry, 22-10, while holding an advantage in corner kicks, seven to three. Freshman Micaela Robinson (Goshen, N.Y.) registered a trio of stops, including a pair of saves in the second half. Chiofalo recorded eight stops in the setback.

Both teams return to action next Tuesday, October 27 as Wentworth travels to Eastern Nazarene College for an 8:00 p.m. kick-off, while Curry hosts Western New England College at 6:30 p.m. (Game Recap Courtesy of Sports Information)
