MILTON, Mass. – The Curry College women's lacrosse team picked up its first Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) win of the season on Thursday evening, defeating the Wentworth Institute of Technology by a 16-11 final at Walter M. Katz Field.

Sophomore Katie Parker (Branford, Conn.) tied a season-high with four goals to lead the Colonels. Freshman Andria Torres (Milford, Conn.) tallied four points on three goals and one assist. Junior Abby Dubel (Wolfeboro, N.H.) and sophomore Allie Wysocki (Agawam, Mass.) netted hat tricks while classmate Leona Stevens (Kinston, Mass.) registered four points on two goals and two helpers. Junior Kayla Merritt (Attleboro, Mass.) recorded a goal to round out the scoring.    

Senior Brooke Paradis Wentworth (6-2 overall, 0-2 CCC) with eight points on seven goals and one assist.

Dubel got Curry on the board early as she scored just under three minutes into the contest for an early 1-0 advantage. The Leopards battled back and eventually knotted things up at one on Paradis first goal of the night off an assist from sophomore Emily Rogers (Pembroke, Mass.). However, Curry responded with seven straight tallies to take an 8-1 advantage as Dubel netted two more goals to notch the hat trick in the first half. Wentworth would find the back of the net once more before the halftime intermission on a goal from freshman Bella MacMahon (North Yarmouth, Maine) with 14 seconds remaining to send the score to 8-2 in favor of the Colonels. Curry outshot Wentworth 22-12 in the half.

In the second half, the visitors cut the deficit to as little as four as the Leopards used separate runs of 4-0 and 3-0 to trim the Colonel lead to just four with 8:36 left in regulation. Curry answered back, outscoring Wentworth 2-1 over the final 6:13. Parker added a free position goal to make the score 15-10. Paradis responded with a tally with 49 seconds later for the Leopards final goal. Torres closed the game scoring with a goal with under three minutes remaining for the 16-11 final.

Freshman goalie Jessica Ginaitt (Warwick, R.I.) was solid between the pipes, stopping 11 shots to earn the win for Curry. Sophomore Lily Kuhns (Gloucester, Mass.) absorbed the loss for Wentworth and finished with 14 saves.

Curry (5-4 overall, 1-1 CCC) hits the road for two straight conference games starting on Saturday, March 30 at Roger Williams at noon. Wentworth returns home to host Nichols on Saturday at noon.
