Anne O'Byrne Named as Women's Lacrosse Head Coach

MILTON, Mass. – Curry College has named Anne O'Byrne as head coach of the women's lacrosse program, as announced by Director of Athletics Vinnie Eruzione on Monday.

O'Byrne spent the past year as the head coach of the Newbury College women's lacrosse program. In her only season with the Nighthawks, O'Byrne guided the squad to the New England Collegiate Conference (NECC) Quarterfinals.

"I'm very excited to have Anne O'Byrne join our coaching staff here at Curry," said Eruzione. "Her passion and excitement for the sport of lacrosse and the success of Division III student-athletes will be a great addition to our department. Being a former D-III college student-athlete herself, she understands that time management, respect, and accountability are key to student-athlete and team success not only on the playing fields but in the classroom and community. Anne will be a tireless recruiter who will look to continue to bring in quality student-athletes from across the region."

O'Byrne takes over a program that went 4-11-0 in 2018 and last produced a winning season in 2016. The Colonels are slated to return 11 letter winners from last season's roster.

"I am honored and humbled for the opportunity to lead the Curry College women's lacrosse program," said O'Byrne. "Curry Women's Lacrosse has a rich history and strong foundation in place, so I'm excited for the chance to build on that and be part of its narrative of success."

During her time at Newbury, O'Byrne was involved in all facets of team operations: practice implementation, manage budget and fundraising efforts, promote the academic success of student-athletes through the facilitation of study hall hours, execute game preparation by scouting opponents, film analysis and strategy application. Additionally, O'Byrne was responsible for recruiting, working closely with admissions, and also served as game management for soccer, basketball, and volleyball home contests. Prior to her stop at Newbury, O'Byrne served as an assistant coach for Wheelock College from August 2015 through November 2017.

O'Byrne received a bachelor's degree in political science and government with a minor in biological studies from Mount Holyoke College in 2013. While at MHC, she was a four-year member of the field hockey program. She also served as the captain of the field hockey team and was the Health and Wellness Chair on the Student-Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC).

Currently, she serves as an Assistant Property Manager for BioMed Realty in Cambridge, Mass. O'Byrne currently resides in Boston.

O'Byrne and the Colonels open the 2018-19 season on Tuesday, March 5 at home against Dean College at 4:00 p.m.
