Women's Lacrosse Claims #5 Seed in CCC Quarterfinals

SPRINGFIELD, Mass. – Roger Williams went a perfect 8-0 (13-3 overall) in Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) play this year to earn the top seed in the CCC Women's Lacrosse Championship Tournament, which gets underway on Saturday, April 30 with the quarterfinal round.

The Hawks, who ranked No. 11 in New England in the NCAA Regional Rankings last week, earned the league's top spot in the tournament after making a deep tournament run in 2015. They made it all the way to the CCC Championship game, but were edged out, 11-9, by Western New England.

Endicott will be the No. 2 seed in the CCC Tournament with a 6-2 (7-9 overall) conference record. The Gulls earned the second seed over the University of New England, which also finished 6-2 (10-6 overall), thanks to a head-to-head win over the Nor'easters on the final day of the CCC regular season.

Roger Williams and Endicott both receive byes into the semifinal round of the tournament. UNE will play a quarterfinal matchup with No. 6-seed Curry on Saturday. That game gets underway at noon in Biddeford, Maine with the winner advancing to take on Endicott on Wednesday, May 4 in the semifinals.

The other quarterfinal features reigning CCC Champion and No. 3-seed Western New England hosting No. 4-seed Gordon. These two teams met on the final day of the regular season with the Golden Bears winning 13-8 and claiming the tiebreaker as both teams finished with 5-3 CCC records. Game time is set for 1 p.m. in Springfield, Mass with the winner set to take on Roger Williams in the semifinals.

The two semifinal winners will meet for the Conference Championship on Saturday, May 7 with the highest remaining seed hosting. The CCC Champion will be awarded the conference's automatic berth into the 2016 NCAA Women's Lacrosse Championship.
