Women's Lacrosse Downs Wentworth 20-11 in CCC Action

BOSTON, Mass. – Junior Kelly Parker (Branford, Conn.) scored four goals and assisted on three others while senior Alexis Cran (Branford, Conn.) tallied a pair of goals and had seven assists as the Curry College women's lacrosse team defeated Wentworth Institute of Technology, 20-11, in a Commonwealth Coast Conference matchup at Sweeney Field.

With the win the Colonels improve to 7-4 overall and 2-2 in league play while the Leopards fall to 2-9 (0-2).

Freshmen Leah Cummins (Plymouth, Mass.) and Brooke Paradis (Pelham, N.H.) gave Wentworth a quick 2-1 lead after scoring 26 seconds apart from one another. Senior Hannah Peper (Wayland, Mass.) netted her second of the half Curry at the 26:20 mark and helped set off a 6-0 run that gave the visitors a 7-2 edge with 22 minutes remaining in the first half. Cummins tallied her second goal of the half to put Wentworth within four, but junior Abby Carnevale (Hanover, Mass.) contributed three goals to help give Curry the 15-3 advantage. With 32 ticks left, Liz Glavin tallied the fourth Leopards marker to put the score at 15-4 to close the half.

The Leopards began to spark a comeback early on in the second as they found the back of the net three times to cut the Colonels' once commanding lead down to seven at 15-8. Curry tacked on three more goals before junior Brandie Holland (Lynn, Mass.) cut the lead in half at 18-9 at the 9:34 mark. Two quick Curry goals pushed the lead back to 11 with 3:14 left before the Leopards closed out the scoring with two goals in the final 1:46.

Peper finished with five goals and an assist, Carnevale had four goals and an assist, and junior Malorie Knowlton (Norfolk, Mass.) had three goals and an assist. Cran won 18 draw controls and three players scooped up four ground balls each. Parker and Carnevale caused three turnovers apiece. Senior Annie Douglas (Manchester, N.H.) had 11 saves in the win for Curry.

Paradis led the Leopards with four goals, one helper and scooped up six ground balls. Cummins and Holland had two goals each, while senior Pam Mudge (Hooksett, N.H.) and sophomore Sam Webb (Westminster, Md.) picked up five ground balls. Senior Hayley Patton (Cranston, R.I.) saved 15 shots through 60 minutes in the net.

Wentworth will take on the University of New England on Tuesday at 4:00 p.m., while Curry returns home to face Bay Path at 4:30 p.m. on Monday.  (Game Recap Courtesy of Wentworth Sports Information)
