Women's Lacrosse Drops First Conference Game to the University of New England, 10-6

BIDDEFORD, Maine -- The University of New England notched six of the game's first seven goals on its way to a 10-6 victory over Curry College in Commonwealth Coast Conference women's lacrosse action Wednesday (Mar. 30) at the Big Blue Turf.  

With the win, the Nor'easters improve to 5-3 on the year (1-0 CCC). The loss drops the Colonels back to 5-3 overall (0-1 CCC).

Nicole Carvalho led the way for Big Blue, recording three goals and one assist. Korinne Bohunsky and Olivia Carpenter chipped in two goals apiece; Bohunsky also controlled a team-high three draws. Kimberly Gosselin assisted on two of the scores. Katie Cawley factored in two goals with one marker and an assist. 

Courtney Kendall made 11 saves in goal for UNE and shared the team high of six ground balls with defender Sydney Cooke. Lauryn Huck contributed four caused turnovers. 

For the visitors, Malorie Knowlton paced the attack with a match-best four goals, as well as seven caused turnovers. Brooke Harrington dished out a pair of assists. Alexis Cran filled the stat sheet with six draw controls, six ground balls, and four caused turnovers. Curry goalkeeper Annie Douglas stopped eight shots.

After the Colonels got on the board to make it 2-1 with 12 minutes gone, Carpenter and Carvalho combined for their four goals to push the UNE lead to 6-1 with 6:18 left in the 1st half. 

The Nor'easters strung together three unanswered tallies over 4:07 early in the 2nd period to stretch the advantage to 9-3. 

In spite of the final margin, Curry finished with a 25-22 edge in shots. 

UNE will continue CCC play on Saturday (3:30 p.m.) at Roger Williams University. The Colonels return home to face Salve Regina University the same day and time.  (Game Recap Courtesy of UNE Sports Information)
