Women's Lacrosse Downs Mount Ida 19-4 for First Win of the Season

MILTON, Mass. –Curry College defeated visiting Mount Ida College 19-4, in women's lacrosse action on Tuesday afternoon in Milton, Mass.  With the win, the Colonels even out their overall record to 1-1, while the Mustangs fell to 0-2.

The Mustangs were the first to get on the board 4:44 minutes into the opening stanza on a goal by freshman Rebecca Beaulieu (Weare, N.H.) assisted by junior Kaitlyn Asshaufer (Cheshire, Mass.).  The Colonels went on a six goal run over the next eleven minutes.  Three of the six tallies were off free-position shots. Curry got two free-positions from seniors Kaitlin Cloutier (Montpelier, Vt.) and one from Haley Carey (New Milford, Conn.).  Carey and freshman Alli Schoff (Berwick, Maine) netted an unassisted goal each while freshman Rachael Lawrence (Hanover, Mass.) earned one off a pass from Cloutier.  Senior Molly Shepard (Brookhaven, N.Y.) scored Mount Ida's second on the day on her own free-position.  With just two minutes remaining in the half, the Colonels put up three more and the Mustangs one.  Mount Ida's goal came with just four seconds showing on the board.  Curry's Carey earned another free-position and chipped in with an assist for four points in the 30 minutes of play.  Senior Deanna Monfredo (West Islip, N.Y.) tallied two back-to-back.  Mount Ida's was off the stick of Asshaufer.  

The Colonels outscored the Mustangs 10-1 in the final period.  All ten were unanswered before the Mustangs Amanda Bowen (Randolph, Vt.) finished with the final goal of the game.  Curry's Carey had two more and another assist for eight points to lead all scorers.  Senior Mel Brickey (Chelmsford, Mass.) netted two goals and had three assists for five total points.  Freshman Kelly Parker (Branford, Conn.) tallied two goals and chipped in with an assist and Monfredo scored another as they both earned three points.  Three Colonels finished with two points on the day with sophomore Emma Bolton (Mahwah, N.J.) netting one and helping on one and Schoff tallying her second.  Freshman Malorie Knowlton (Norfolk, Mass.) finished the night with a score of her own. 

Curry had four freshmen earn their first collegiate goal.  Carey led all scorers with eight points on six goals and two assists.  Brickey finished with five points while also causing 11 turnovers and winning 11 out of her team's 19 draw controls.  Asshaufer led Mount Ida with two points on one goal and an assist.

Curry outshot Mount Ida 37-11.  On draw, the Colonels won up 19 and the Mustangs 6.

Sophomore Anne Douglas (Manchester, N.H.) made five saves in her 60:00 minutes of play in net for the Colonel's in the win.  Junior goaltender Samantha Levitt (Wayland, Mass.) made 11 saves in goal for the Mustangs in the loss.

Curry will host to Lasell College on Thursday, March 6 for a 4:00 p.m. game start.  Mount Ida will travel to UMass Dartmouth on Thursday, March 6 also for a 4:00 p.m. start.
