Perine, Irwin Collect NEWBA Awards

SPRINGFIELD, Mass. – Curry College freshman Peyton Perine (Fairfax, Va.) has been recognized as the New England Women's Basketball Association (NEWBA) Rookie of the Week, as announced by the organization on Tuesday morning. Additionally, senior guard Emily Irwin (Billerica, Mass.) was named to the Weekly Honor Roll.

Perine helped Curry to a 2-0 week while averaging 19 points, nine rebounds, 2.5 assists and two steals per game. She started the week with a double-double of 21 points (on 8-of-16 shooting), 11 rebounds, two assists and one steal in a 63-51 victory over Wentworth on Wednesday. She then put up another strong effort in a 58-44 win over Nichols on Saturday with 17 points, seven boards, three assists, three steals and two blocks in 39 minutes of action. For the week, Perine shot 42.9 percent from the field.

Irwin extended her double-digit scoring streak to 14 straight games as she averaged 16.5 points, nine steals, 8.5 rebounds and 4.5 assists per game in two Curry victories. She started the week finishing one steal shy of a triple-double with 20 points (on 8-for-19 shooting), 10 rebounds, nine steals and five assists in a 63-51 victory over Wentworth on Wednesday. Irwin then closed the week with 13 points, nine steals, seven rebounds and four assists in a 58-44 win over Nichols on Saturday.

Perine, Irwin, and the Colonels (10-7 overall, 7-2 CCC) will host Endicott on Saturday, January 26 at 1:00 p.m.
