Strong Second Half Propels Suffolk Past Women’s Basketball, 72-57

MILTON, Mass. – Jenni-Rose DiCecco (Falmouth, Mass.) and Alexis Hackett (Charlton, Mass.) combined for 48 points and 21 rebounds to fuel a second half comeback to help the Suffolk University women's basketball down Curry College in non-league action on Monday night at the Katz Gymnasium by a final of 72-57. The win improves the Rams to 3-2 while the Colonels even their record at 3-3.

Curry owned a 15-9 lead after one period as four different players hit field goals. Suffolk, who outscored the Colonels in the second quarter, did just enough to keep themselves in the contest, as Curry carried a 31-27 lead into the intermission. The Rams used strong defense in the second quarter through the end of regulation, converting 18 turnovers into 17 points, while the Colonels tallied just six points off 16 Suffolk miscues. The visitors would outscore 45-26 in the second half to take the contest by a 15 point margin.

The Rams put two players in double digits in scoring. DiCecco recorded a double-double with 28 points and 10 rebounds. Nine of her 10 boards came on the defensive glass. Hackett also posted a double-double, netting 21 points and grabbing 11 rebounds, hitting 8-of-10 overall and 3-of-3 from beyond the arc. Shannon Smith (Tewksbury, Mass.) was the leading scorer off the bench, tallying six points. She added two rebounds, two steals and a block to her stat line.

Emily Irwin (Billerica, Mass.) was one of three Curry players to reach double digits in scoring with 16 points. She needed 5-of-14 shooting and 6-of-9 from the charity stripe to get there. Irwin also added 13 rebounds, six assists and five steals. Joining Irwin in double figures was Molly Plunkett (Quincy, Mass.) with 10 points and eight rebounds while Nicole Rice (Woburn, Mass.) also had 10 points and pitched in three boards. Erica Ulrich (Westminster, Mass.) was the leading scorer off the bench with five points.

Curry returns to action on Wednesday, November 29 when they open conference play at home against Wentworth at 5:30 p.m. Suffolk will open GNAC play on Wednesday when they travel to Lasell for a 7:00 p.m. tip.
