FRAMINGHAM, Mass. – The Curry College women's basketball team used a 27 point fourth quarter to  propel past Framingham State in their season opener 57-53 in non-conference action at the Athletic Center.

With the win, the Colonels are 1-0 on the season, while the Rams, who have won 18 of their last 19 games at home, move to 0-1 on the year.

The Rams led by as many as 10, on a layup from Mary Kate O'Day (Berlin, Mass.), with 7:44 remaining in the fourth quarter, but Curry used 13-2 run over the next five minutes capped by a pair of free throws from Taylor McNair (Oxford, Mass.) to take a 49-48 lead with 2:22 remaining.

The Colonels pushed the lead to four on a three from Gina Coote (Dedham, Mass.), but a pair of O'Day free throws pulled the Rams within two with 31 seconds remaining.  Emily Irwin (Billerica, Mass.) converted one of two from the line to push the lead to three with 28 seconds left.

The Rams called timeout and advanced the ball setting up a game tying three on the right wing from O'Day with 23 seconds left.  On the next possession, Irwin converted a layup and was fouled.  Irwin missed the free throw and the Rams secured the rebound advancing the ball. Coming out of the timeout, the Rams had a good look in the paint to tie the game, but the shot rolled off the rim forcing the Rams to foul. Curry missed the two free throws but secured the rebound to seal the victory.

Curry was led by 17 points apiece from Coote and Irwin, while Molly Plunkett (Quincy, Mass.) added 13.  The Rams were paced by 12 points from senior Raegan Mulherin (Baldwinville, Mass.), while junior Tiphani Harris (Revere, Mass.) added a double double with 10 points and 15 rebounds.

The Rams struggled from the floor in the game shooting just 31% from the field including just 12% from behind the arc.  The Colonels shot 26% from the floor in the game, but converted the Rams 33 turnovers into 24 points.

The Rams are back in action on Friday night when they travel to Keene State and face the Owls at 4:00 p.m., while Curry will host their own tip-off tournament this weekend beginning with a match-up against Pine Manor on Saturday at 3:00 p.m.
