Women's Basketball Pushes #20 UNE Before Falling 60-47

MILTON, Mass. – Curry College fell to nationally-ranked University of New England on Senior Night, 60-47, in Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) women's basketball action Wednesday night in Milton. The #20 Nor'easters improved to 22-2 on the season and 16-1 in league action, while the Colonels fell to 13-11 overall and 9-8 in CCC play.

UNE took its largest lead of the first half (29-17) after junior Kelly Coleman (Portland, Conn.) split a pair from the charity stripe with 32 seconds on the clock. On the following possession, Curry junior Samantha Corcoran (Hampton, N.H.) sank a jumper to conclude the first period scoring and trim the deficit to 10 (29-19) heading into intermission.

With 16:12 remaining in the second frame, the Nor'easters claimed their biggest lead of the game (42-21) after freshman Alicia Brown (Greenland, N.H.) converted a layup. The Colonels chipped away, pulling within nine points (54-45) after sophomore Shannon Griffith (West Hartford, Conn.) made a layup with 4:10 remaining in regulation. UNE went on to score six of the game's final eight points, accounting for the 60-47 final.

The Nor'easters were led by Coleman with a game-high 18 points, while also pulling down eight boards. Sophomore Meghan Gribbin (Windham, Maine) recorded a double-double with 15 points and a game-best 11 rebounds, while Brown added 11 rebounds.

Junior Kylie Beltz led Curry with 16 points, while swiping a game-high five steals. Corcoran chipped in with 10 points and six rebounds. Ashley Assarian (Chicopee, Mass.), the Colonels' lone senior, recorded five points and two steals.

Both teams return to CCC action on Saturday at 1:00 p.m., as UNE hosts Roger Williams, while Curry travels to Salve Regina.
