Women's Basketball Extends Win Streak to Six with 68-58 Victory Over Gordon

MILTON, Mass. – The Curry College women's basketball team extended its winning streak to six with a 68-58 victory over visiting Gordon College in Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) action Saturday afternoon in Milton. The Colonels improved to 13-8 on the season and 9-5 in league play, while the Fighting Scots fell to 5-16 overall and 1-13 in CCC contests.

Curry took its biggest lead of the first half (27-14) after junior Christina Deiorio (Stoughton, Mass.) split a pair from the charity stripe with 8:37 on the clock. With four seconds left in the first frame, Gordon cut  the deficit to seven (41-34) after senior Lauren Kranyak (Locust Grove, Va.) sank a three-pointer to conclude the first half scoring.

The Fighting Scots opened the second half with a 9-3 run, trimming the lead to one (44-43) with 16:18 remaining in regulation. Kranyak started the run with another shot from beyond the arc and later capped it off with a made jumper. The Colonels answered with a 19-4 run, claiming a 63-47 edge with 6:40 left in the second period. Curry maintained a steady lead throughout the remainder of the game, en route to the 68-58 final.

Senior Ashley Assarian (Chicopee, Mass.) led all scorers with 24 points, including 18 in the first half, while drilling 6-of-10 attempts from beyond the arc. Junior Kylie Beltz (Pequot Lakes, Minn.) added 16 points, eight rebounds and also dished out a game-high eight assists.

Gordon was led by Kranyak with a team-best 20 points, while also pulling down nine boards. Sophomore Olivia Vetere (Mahopac, N.Y.) chipped in with 14 points, while freshman Fredi Nielson (Bridgeport, Conn.) recorded a game-high 11 rebounds.

Both teams return to CCC action on Wednesday at 5:30 p.m., as the Colonels host Roger Williams, while the Fighting Scots travel to the University of New England.
