BRISTOL, R.I. – The Roger Williams University Women's Basketball took down Curry College Wednesday evening with a 72-65 win.

Both teams battled back and forth in the beginning of the game, with five ties and five lead changes in the first half. Curry began with back-to-back layups by Samantha Corcoran (Hampton, N.H.) and Kylie Beltz (Pequot Lakes, Minn.) before Kaitlyn Bovee (Berlin, Conn.) and Ari Renwick (Westwood, Mass.) responded with lay-ins of their own.

It was a two-possession game for the majority of the period in either direction. The turning point came halfway in the first half, with the Hawks utilizing a 9-0 to take a 26-20 advantage with 6:15 left in the period. Ashley Assarian (Chicopee, Mass.) tied the game at 35 with a three-pointer with two minutes left. Yet the Hawks score the final five points of the half to go into the break with the lead.

The early part of the second half was marked by a lack of offense for both teams, as the two squad combined to shoot 4-for-24 over the first seven minutes of play. From that point, the Hawks used a 13-2 run over the following three minutes to take a commanding 57-42 lead with 9:46 to play.

However, Curry continued to fight back, with Corcoran knocking down a jumper to bring the Colonels within six (61-67) with 3:46 to play. However, the Colonels went cold from the field over the next two minutes, going 0-for-4 while RWU built the advantage back up to 11. By that point, Curry's deficit proved to be too much to overcome.

Four Hawks scored in double figures, including Renwick with a career-high 22 points along with five steals. Angelica Ariola (Prospect, Conn.) scored 12 points with six assists, while Shannon Cullen (Walpole, Mass.) added 11 points and six boards. Bovee chipped in with ten points and seven rebounds.

Shannon Griffith (West Hartford, Conn.) led Curry with 17 points and seven rebounds off the bench. Beltz came through with 13 points and three assists, while Assarian finished with 11 points, four assists, and four steals. Corcoran fell just shy of a double-double, going for eight points and nine rebounds.
