Curry’s biggest lead of the first period (10-5) came after a layup by sophomore Jeanette Fallon (Nashua, N.H.) at the 15:33 mark. Just under four minutes later, Eastern Nazarene knotted the score at 12-12 after senior Mel Green (Annapolis, Md.) sank a three-pointer. The Lions claimed their biggest lead of the first half (26-22) after senior Shardae Brown (Waterbury, Conn.) converted a layup that sent them into intermission with a four-point edge.
With nine minutes remaining in regulation, Eastern Nazarene built their largest lead of the game (41-28) after junior Presley Neufeld (Seattle, Wash.) hit a jumper. The Colonels answered with a 20-6 run to cut the deficit to one (48-47) with 27 seconds on the clock. The run began when freshman Shannon Griffith (West Hartford, Conn.) made a layup and was capped off with a converted layup by sophomore Christina Deiorio (Stoughton, Mass.).
After Deiorio’s made layup, Curry immediately fouled and sent Eastern Nazarene to the charity stripe with 22 seconds left. After the Lions split their free throws, the Colonels trailed by two (49-47). Eastern Nazarene managed to steal the following inbounds pass and Curry committed another foul, leaving nine seconds on the clock. The Lions again split their free throws, but the Colonels could only manage to score two points at the buzzer after a missed three-pointer.
Eastern Nazarene was led by Brown, who recorded a double-double with game-highs in points (19) and rebounds (20). Green pulled down 12 boards and swiped a game-best four steals.
Curry was led by Fallon with 15 points, while sophomore Kylie Beltz (Pequot Lakes, Minn.) added 10. Griffith had a team-high 10 rebounds, while sophomore Samantha Corcoran (Hampton, N.H.) pulled down seven boards.
Both teams return to CCC action on Saturday at 1 p.m. The Colonels travel to Wentworth, while the Lions host Endicott.
