Women's Basketball Picks Up Key TCCC Win, 71-53, Over Visiting Wentworth

MILTON, Mass. – Sophomore Carolyn Houston went 4-for-4 from beyond the arc, leading Curry to a 71-53 win over Wentworth in The Commonwealth Coast Conference (TCCC) women’s basketball action Saturday in Milton. The Colonels improved to 17-6 overall and 6-5 in conference play. The Leopards fell to 9-14 overall and 3-8 in TCCC action.

Curry never trailed in the contest, and opened its largest first-half lead (39-17) at 1:52 on a pair of made free throws by senior forward Danyel Cousins (Brunswick, ME). With 33 seconds remaining in the opening frame, Wentworth sophomore forward Jordan Biggar (Beverly, MA) drained a three-pointer to cut the deficit to 18 (39-21) at intermission.

The Colonels built a game-high 23-point lead a number of times in the second half, the last of which came at 9:19 on a pair of made free throws by sophomore forward Hailey Rafferty (Worcester, MA). The closest the Leopards would come was a 13-point deficit (63-50) with 4:50 remaining in regulation after a pair from the charity stripe by freshman guard Kendra Kerr (Marshfield, MA).

Houston (Melrose, NY) led Curry with a game-high 18 points. Sophomore forward Julia Scrubb (Stowe, VT) contributed 11 points. Senior forward Cortney Robinson (Brockton, MA) and Houston led the Colonels on the boards with six rebounds apiece.

Wentworth was led by Kerr with a team-high 15 points, while Biggar chipped in with 12. Senior forward Kirsten Vallone (Avon, NY) pulled down a game-high nine boards.

Both teams resume play on February 16, with Colonels traveling to Roger Williams (6:00 p.m.), and the Leopards hosting Colby-Sawyer (5:30 p.m.).
