Women's Basketball Cruises Past Lasell, 70-45, in Non-Conference Action

MILTON, Mass. – Senior guard Joneiha Veiga (Brockton, MA) led all scorers with 22 points, as Curry College defeated visiting Lasell College, 70-45, in non-conference women’s basketball action Thursday night in Milton. The Colonels improved to 16-6 on the season while the Lasers fell to 1-21.

Leading 15-12 with 11:25 remaining in the first half, Curry started a 15-2 run with a layup by sophomore forward Carolyn Houston (Melrose, NY) and capped it off with a three-pointer by freshman guard Ashley Assarian (Chicopee, MA) nearly nine minutes later. The Colonels went on to take a 17-point lead (35-18) at intermission.

A second-half highlight for Lasell came with 14:15 remaining after a layup by senior guard Katie Farr (Rindge, NH) sparked an 8-0 run. Curry responded immediately with a 6-0 run, re-establishing a 20-point edge that they would never relinquish.

After Veiga’s game-high 22 points, senior forward Cortney Robinson (Brockton, MA) and sophomore forward Hailey Rafferty (Worcester, MA) contributed 12 and 11 points, respectively, for the hosts. Veiga also led the Colonels on the glass with a team-high eight boards.

Junior forward JoAnna Bishop (South Burlington, VT) racked up a double-double, leading the Lasers with team highs in points (10) and rebounds (13).

Curry is back in action on Saturday, hosting conference rival Wentworth at 1:00 p.m. Lasell hits the road on Saturday, traveling to St. Joseph’s (Maine) for a 1:00 p.m. tip-off.
