Women's Basketball Makes it Six Straight, Pulling Away From Eastern Nazarene, 58-49
MILTON, Mass. – Curry College notched its sixth-straight win, defeating Eastern Nazarene, 58-49, in The Commonwealth Coast Conference (TCCC) women’s basketball action Saturday afternoon in Milton. The Colonels improved to 15-5 overall and 5-4 in TCCC action, while the Lions slipped to 3-18 overall and 1-8 in conference play.

After trailing for most of the opening frame, Curry took its first lead of the game (24-22) with 2:37 remaining in the first half after a layup by sophomore forward Carolyn Houston (Melrose, NY). The Colonels later took a 27-24 edge into the break.

Curry built its lead to eight (47-39) with 9:23 remaining in regulation after a made free throw by Houston. A 6-0 run by the visitors that was capped off with a layup by freshman center Abbie Tonello (Plymouth, MA), cut the deficit to two (47-45) with 6:59 remaining. But the hosts would later score nine of the game’s final 13 points to secure the victory.

The Colonels were led by sophomore forward Hailey Rafferty (Worcester, MA) with a game-high 16 points. Classmates Julia Scrubb (Stowe, VT) and Houston added 11 and 10 points, respectively. Senior forward Cortney Robinson (Brockton, MA) grabbed a game-high 12 rebounds.

Sophomore center Shardae Brown (Waterbury, CT) led ENC with a team-high 11 points, while sophomore guard Ace Carradine (Honolulu, HI) contributed 10. Senior forward Ja’na Jenkins (Oakland, CA), Brown and Tonello had nine rebounds apiece.

Both teams resume play on February 8, with Curry traveling to Salve Regina and Eastern Nazarene hosting New England College. Both contests have a 6:00 p.m. tip-off.
