Women's Basketball Defeats New England College, 74-64, For Fifth-Straight Win

HENNIKER, N.H. – Curry College women’s basketball forward Cortney Robinson (Brockton, Mass.) finished with a team-high 16 points and nine rebounds leading the visiting Colonels past the New England College Pilgrims 74-64 Thursday evening. With the win, the Colonels extend their winning streak to five games improving to 14-5 overall and evening their conference record at 4-4. The loss drops the Pilgrims to 10-10 on the season and 3-5 in conference play.
 
Curry would jump out early scoring the first three baskets of the game, building the 6-0 lead.  NEC would respond, battling back to knot the game at 11-11 with 12:55 on the clock. The Colonels would slowly rebuild their lead, grabbing their largest lead of the half up 27-18 with just over five minutes left to play. NEC would use a 6-0 run of its own, cutting the lead to three trailing 27-24. But Curry would close out the half outscoring the Pilgrims 6-2 and  headed into halftime up 33-26.
 
NEC would chip away early in the second half getting within three points, but Curry would use a 15-6 run to build its largest lead of the evening up 52-41 midway through the half. NEC would get within nine late but that was as close as they would get as Curry would finish the game shooting 44% from the field while holding NEC to just 35% shooting for the game.
 
In addition to Robinson, the Colonels were led by Ashley Assarian (Chicopee, Mass.), who finished with 16 points, and Carolyn Houston (Melrose, N.Y.), who chipped in 13 points and grabbed nine rebounds. Also scoring in double-figures for Curry were Joneiha Veiga (Brockton, Mass.), who finished 3-for-6 from three point range finishing with 13 points, and Julia Scrubb (Stowe, Vt.), who scored 10 points for the Colonels.
 
Leading the way for NEC was Rachel Williams (Chapel Hill, N.C.), who finished with a game-high 18 points and 10 rebounds. NEC’s Jessie Ledy (Pickford, Mich.) was the only other Pilgrim in double-figures chipping in 16 points, while Kate Levy (Woods Hole, Mass.) finished with nine points and five rebounds.
 
NEC returns to action on Saturday, Feb. 5 when they travel to take on conference opponent Western New England College.  Curry College will hit the court on Saturday, Feb. 5 when they host conference foe Eastern Nazarene College. (Game recap courtesy of NEC Sports Information)
